2/27 — …wait, what?

The new labels. They're purple. Also, they say 'The Vagabond Tabby' where it used to say 'Om Shanti Naturals'.SO YES I’ve gone and changed the name of the business while I was at it. I mean, I was relabeling everything anyway, so I figured I might as well?

This isn’t as out-of-the-blue as that; it’s been coming for probably a year, and it’s part of the reason why the Great Anticipated Relabeling has taken so damn long. I didn’t want to have to relabel everything twice, and this had to happen.

See, it’s the Om Shanti part. I’m not Indian, I’m not Hindu; I don’t even do yoga. I got to feeling like I’d set my booth up in someone else’s front yard to sell my stuff, and I wasn’t even giving them a cut of what I was making. I felt, long story short, like I was taking something that was someone else’s. It wasn’t right.

…and then of course I spent seven or eight months flailing around trying to figure out the PERFECT NAME. I’m really pleased with what I wound up with, though — The Vagabond Tabby — it’s got a lot of both me and my VP of Marketing in it, and a lot of looking ahead to us getting ourselves on the road.

Things will catch up to the new name a little slowly. The new labels are done (as witness above), but I’m still working on taking new pictures of everything (they’re going up little by little; some of you may have seen them already.). The new web address is waiting on my webgeek, who has had a bit of a life explosion recently, but it’s coming soon. New business cards will happen sometime after I’ve gotten all the pictures taken.

It’ll all get done when it gets done. It’ll be the Slowest Business Launch Ever! And I’m pretty okay with that. After all, I’m not in a hurry.

  2. “The Vagabond Tabby”… I LOVE it! Between this and S00j- The “Lady Vagabond”, I want to start a “Vagabond Co-Op”… we could all travel together when schedules permit, help each other out, keep each other out of trouble.. or find it together! :D Hmmm… There might be an idea there. ..??

    • I may possibly have been inspired by the song. A little. ;)

I wanted something to convey the on-the-road part, and what better word than that? Especially since Sooj is one of the people who originally inspired me to get on the road.

And I think that would be brilliant! I’d love to travel in a caravan from time to time.

  3. The new name is really a good fit for you and the VP of Marketing! Miss you both. Jpeg has yet to repeat his war cry that Loiosh inspired!

    • Loiosh certainly inspires other cats to heighs of…well, something, anyway. I’ll have to bring him back to visit, and next time we’ll have to get out a camera _before_ we’re laughing to hard to do anything else.

    • Heya Dolly!

Thank you for your kind words — they mean a lot to me, coming from someone who is exactly what I’m not, in this case (though we do both make soap!).

I haven’t been responding to your comments because, well, I guess I felt sort of like you’d followed me because maybe you thought I was something I wasn’t? So I felt like a fraud. And then I was scared to reply.

(Anyway, as far as I can tell, my soap is shiny because my soap molds are really smooth on the inside. If it’s not that then I really don’t know what to tell you.)

      • “So I felt like a fraud. And then I was scared to reply.”

        this sounds so cute :):)

n yes… i re-looked at my soaps n realised that the silicon moulds did the trick for my soaps too…so thanks for sharing…:)

        as for not being alike…

well, we are…i too think i wasnt born to slave at someone’s beck n call so left my job as a copywriter in an ad agency…and m now roaming around…living my life…the way i want to… :D

following a religious code is only a very small part of what we are :)

        • Oh, I’m glad the silicone molds are working for you, too — I LOVE the things, won’t use anything else.

And it’s good to hear from someone else who’s left a soul-crushing job. Ugh, I’m bad enough at writing copy for my own products, I can’t imagine trying to come up with nice things to say about someone else’s. I’m glad you’re out of that!

It does sound like we have a fair bit in common — I want to buy an RV and travel in it — is that something like the roaming you’re doing?
