01/08 — Outlands 12th Night

I want to start this post by whining, because my alarm clock went off at 6:30 the morning of Outlands 12th Night. IT WAS NOT EVEN LIGHT OUT.

I know that this is not at all an unusual time for most of you. And I get how much that’s got to suck. But still. DARK OUT. IT WAS DARK OUT.

But I hauled my butt out of bed and got myself decent-ish and was in the van by 7, and I even didn’t forget anything, so I guess it worked.

I got to site (the same place Outlands 12th Night has been for the last zillion years, near as I can figure) on time and got set up and it was still early enough that I had time to go and talk to people and generally not be stuck in my booth for a bit, which was really nice and I’d do it more often except for this whole morning thing.

Because it never looks the same twice, have a picture of my booth:

Of course I did eventually have to return to my booth and mostly stay there, but half the universe came by to visit so I didn’t mind so much. It’s extra-specially awesome getting to hang out with Dan and Mel because I’ve known them since rocks were soft and dirt was in beta. Plus their kids are adorable.

I had lovely neighbors — The Sable Greyhound, who makes really pretty jewelry and just moved to the Outlands from somewhere else which I never found out. She has Italian greyhounds (who of course had to stay home) but I’m hoping I get to meet them sometime this summer.

I’ve had these two ladies (and their books, which are all I managed to get a picture of) as neighbors before, but I’ve entirely failed to remember their names because my brain is made of cream cheese. They’ve both been in the SCA for a thousand years and they always make me resolve to buy more amber, because I don’t have enough.

Having Master Garwode around is always lovely. We weren’t next to each other so we didn’t get to chat as much as usual but I did get to see a picture of his lady, who was, alas home with the Plague. It’s always good to see him happy.

Master Andrixos was there, which didn’t surprise me, just because I’ve merchanted with Drix in so many kingdoms that I’m just never surprised by him showing up anywhere ever. He’s like Chicken Man that way.

And of course there’s always Sir Asad and his VERY DANGEROUS booth full of VERY DANGEROUS things that I cannot afford. Which I didn’t get pictures of because: Brain made of cream cheese.

I sold a bunch of stuff and hung out with a bunch of people and watched the snow fall and generally had a good time, and eventually I got packed up and drove home, and that was sort of exciting at times…

…but it could’ve been a lot worse, and I got home in good time (under the circumstances) and hauled as little stuff inside as possible and went to bed because did I mention 6:30 in the morning?
