01/15 — Before vandwelling comes vanarranging

Otherwise known as ‘I cannot live in this pit while it is such a pit’, and also, ‘if I don’t get Loiosh out of the house there’ll be murder done’.

That said, the trip began with lunch…well, no, it really began when my roommate asked me somewhat pointedly if I though perhaps I hadn’t better take Loiosh to Garden of the Gods for the day, by which I divined that maybe they’d like some time without me being all up in their business, which I was pretty happy to provide because also they would not be all up in my business. And getting Loiosh out of the house, really never a bad idea.

I wound up not actually going to Garden of the Gods, because I decided that I simply couldn’t be arsed to go that fat when really all I felt like doing was eating lunch and, perhaps, doing some vanarranging, and there are quite lovely city parks much closer than that.

That said, it was lunchtime, but I solved that quite handily with the prompt application of a pile of noodles with pesto. Pesto is so rarely a bad idea.

Yeah, I ate lunch in the van. In my comfy chair in the van, with a book to hand and Loiosh exploring the park we were parked in whilst safely attached to said van with a hank of rope. This is not at all like eating behind the wheel while sitting in traffic when you’re already late for work.

It’s quite as comfortable as sitting in the same comfy chair when it was at my bedroom at my mom’s (note also the lovely knitted blanket my Aunt Ann made for me), and in fact it is more comfortable than the folding chair I use in the bedroom here (because, when I am done with it, it folds, and then I can get to my desk again).

That said, the van itself really does need quite a lot of work.

Which is to say it’s a complete pit (but remember that stack of foam pieces, they’ll come in handy later).

Also Loiosh decided that the wind was a bit windy and came back inside, though he turned down my offer of a piece of parmesan-crusted chicken cos he’s a hoser.

I rearranged things and shoved things into corners and put things into places and also assembled the handy rolls-down-into-like-no-space table that my dear friend Dharma gave me (for which many thanks, Dharma!).

The table in place, I then had somewhere to put many of the things in question — under the table.

There are, alas, still a lot of things. Also, Loiosh loves his Momma very much. (Look, more foam! For which much thanks to my dear friend Maeve.)

That done (and after I sat and read for a bit longer because I could), I decided to take the boy for a bit of a wander.

My trusty home-on-wheels! Which needs a good hosing down.

There is a BMX racing track at this park, and Loiosh and I explored it a little bit. I’m pretty sure if I tried riding a bike at any speed over those bumps, I’d wind up separated from the bike and rudely introduced to the ground, but I bet it’s fun to watch other people be more successful at it.

Surprise lake! And a bit of sun which is always welcome.

My handsomest (and bravest and most curiousest) boy.

Exploring all done! And back to Momma.

…and then I hadda go grocery shopping, which I didn’t take any pictures of cos it’s boring. But it was nice to get out of the house for a while, and I think I’m gonna start grabbing lunch and a book and heading out for an hour or two more often.

Plus it’ll get Loiosh out of the house before there’s murder done.

  1. Hey Kate!

Are you going on the road again? Cat murder? How’s the weather in your area? What are you going to do with the foam? Inquiring minds what to know!
    Safe travels my friend…

  2. I am going on the road again! And murder only happens when Himself gets bored, which is, alas, ALL THE TIME when we’re all stuck at home.
