05/31/15 — Inlandish

This is what I woke up to the first morning of Inlandish, and I spent a while in bed, trying to think of a reason to get up.

Chocolate agreed.

Fortunately the whole weekend didn’t look like that, but boy, was there a lot of wet.

By the end of the weekend I think pretty much every vehicle on site had gotten stuck at least once — some several times — and there wasn’t anybody or anything that wasn’t wet. There were three hailstorms, SO MUCH rain, and a tornado just eight miles offsite. Getting much of anywhere involved wading through the Dead Marshes, and Caer Galen River was draining quite merrily into Lake Corvus.

…in other words there was a lot of this going on.

and some of this (the first course of the feast only; after that I was too busy eating)

and a whole lotta this.

Chocolate got to experience his first thunderstorm (THIS OUT IS DEFECTIVE IT HAS A LEAK), Loiosh was slightly disturbed by the horses, and both of them had mud on their paws at least once over the weekend.

It was the sort of event we’ll all be telling tales about twenty years from now, about how Ealusaid and David had a river running through their tent and all of Dragonsspine worked together to help them out, how Baron Broddi’s pants got so wet they tore right down the front in the middle of court, of all the folks who pushed cars out of mud and wrapped cloaks around other people and helped merchants pack up REAL QUICK in the middle of the hail. It was one of the events that reminds me that the SCA is, at its occasional best, a true society, a bunch of people who actually do take care of each other.

And it was the kind of event that produced SO MUCH LAUNDRY I’ll still be at it in a week or two.

  1. I know that dragonwing! Yep, some pretty outrageous weather that weekend. Can’t wait to see y’all at rapier camp!
